Community Living Hamburg
Can a compact, modular building combine housing, childcare, and green community spaces?
A modular, flexible design unites housing, a two-story daycare, and green terraces, fostering social interaction and contextual integration.
Baufeld B19-Süd anchors the southeastern edge of the Wilhelmsburger Hafenquartier, harmonizing with surrounding parks and neighboring buildings. A two-story daycare serves 75–90 children, while six floors of affordable housing follow the Hamburg standard. Modular construction and adaptable layouts allow flexible prefabrication, sustainable materials, and reconfigurable interiors. Staggered balconies and vertical greenery create a dialogue with the park, extending green spaces upward. The roof functions as communal space, linking building, landscape, and neighborhood while promoting interaction, play, and environmental connection.
